Yoga for the Spine

The spine is central to yoga.

The spine is the centre of our body, our nervous system and, according to Hatha and Tantric Yoga Philosophy, the vital energetic channel to which the Kundalini serpent energy arises in spiritual awakening.

According to this tradition, the 'Kundalini Goddess' sleeps, dormant, coiled up at the base of the spine. When she is awoken, she rises through the central 'Sushuma' Nadi which only becomes activate from the base of the spine (the Muladhara root chakra) to the crown of the head (the Sahasrara Crown Chakra) beyond, up to the heavens!



Whatever your metaphysical view, the spine is for all of us a source of vital energy in our life and yoga practice.


Waking up the spine through yoga can counter lethargic energy (especially if you are like me and very sleepy in the morning!).
